Monday Morning Closing Prayer

September 8, 2008

Lord, we are made in your image. Everything we are and have belongs to you. May you always be first in our hearts, in our thoughts, and in our actions. May we follow you in all things, even as we subvert the Empire. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Missio Dei Breviary, Monday Morning

How can we ensure that He is always first in our thoughts and hearts? I most certainly need to pray this prayer often.

With Jesus, we proclaim:

The Spirit of the Lord is on me,
because he has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners
and recovery of sight for the blind,
to set the oppressed free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.

Father, anoint us with your Spirit. As you sent your Son, your Son has sent us; may we embody the presence of your Son in the world, and in our neighborhood. Empower us to live and proclaim your good news in our neighborhood, and in the world.

Why A Missional Order?

This site exists for two big-picture reasons. On the one hand, we want to counteract some negative trends that are prevalent in society today. Call that our combative side. More important, we think that the missional approach will help us capture the positive dynamics that Jesus wants to be part of every life.

What Is A Missional Order?

Think of it as a dispersed group of people who unite with each other to pursue three common commitments:

1) Punctuate each day with a rhythm that is sacred. 2) Exert ourselves in the continuous formation of character.

3) Participate in the missio Dei, the mission of God.
